Heated Filter PressMicronics Filtration Ltd in conjunction with the ILW team at Bradwell are currently utilizing the Micronics supplied heated filter press (HFP), for trials on sludge and resin simulants in order to further develop the production machine to treat (condition) the wet Intermediate Level Waste (IWL) at Bradwell.

The HFP initially dewaters then squeezes the wet ILW between the press plates of the machine and then dries the material by heating up the plates under a vacuum. This process can remove over 95% of the liquid/moisture from the ILW material, which then renders it conditioned (suitable) to be placed into industry standard storage containers for long term storage/disposal.
